The 2007 NYSRPA SAFS

Well, we got real lucky this year! We had a little rain on Sunday at the Peconic SAFS during the live fire segment, but overall the weather for both weekends was excellent. This year we had a paid attendance of 100 at Camp Smith and 75 at Peconic River. Attendance was down a little, but still a solid crowd.

On Sunday at Camp Smith we ran 21 firing points for four relays and had 15 points running at Peconic, with our usual one-to-one coaching on the line. Many thanks to our great volunteers who every year give unselfishly of themselves to insure out continued success!

Now as we move on to the competitive shooting season the age old question returns, "How many of these participants will come back as new competitors?" Compared to feedback from prior years, we are hearing more say they are interested, and more are showing up with their own gear, but only time will tell. On Long Island participants were offered free entry to matches at the Long Island Highpower League for this season and at both mentoring was offered as well. We are trying to make it easy for the new competitor to get started.

In the meantime, please take moment to check out pictures from this year's events at NYHighpower.com.

Camp Perry High Power Rifle Competition

NY Juniors competing at Camp Perry in the Whistler Boy match in 2004.

If you want to shoot at Camp Perry you have to be prepared for the rain....and also watch out for Sommer Wood and her camera!

The 2007 Season is upon us!

It's been a short/long winter. We did not get much snow here in New York, but while we had some unusually high temperatures for much of the winter we also had some record lows. There were attempts on Long Island to get winter high power matches in, and while a few were successful, it seemed like most fell on the few miserable weather periods we had. Tomorrow is March 25th and last night the report was that the folks on Peconic River's high power committee will be working hard today to try and clear the range of remaining ice and mud to make a match possible in the morning.

The most important upcoming events are the two NYSRPA SAFS, Small Arms Firing Schools. The first, April 21-22 will be at Camp Smith, and the second at the Peconic River Sportman's Club April 28-29. It is a special challenge this year that the events are on back-to-back weekends, but we expect both to be successful. There is still plenty of space available at both events, so sign up now and bring your friends! For info and application, visit www.nyhighpower.com.
